Is Timothy still Waiting? 1 Timothy 6 13 I give thee charge in the sight of God, which quick eneth all things, and before Jesus Christ, which under Pon tius Pilate witnessed a good witnessing, that thou keep the commandment without spot, so that no man find fault with thee, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ. [We don't see the holy city any more and we have misinterpreted many passages.] Revelation 22 19 And if any man shall minish of the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city , and from those things which are written in this book. The bible was preached around the world: ( Matthew 24 14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world, for a witness unto all nations, and then shall the end come .) Romans 10 17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing cometh by the word of God. But I ask: have they not heard? No doubt, their sound went out into all lands: and their words into the ends of the world Romans 16 25 To him that is of power to establish you according to my gospel, where with I preach Jesus Christ, in opening of the mystery which was kept secret since the world began, and now is opened at this time and declared in the scriptures of prophecy, at the commandment of the everlasting God, to stir up obedience to the faith published among all nations Colossians 1 3 We give thanks to God the father of our Lord Jesus Christ alway praying for you in our prayers, since we heard of your faith which ye have in Christ Jesu: and of the love which ye bear to all saints for the hope’s sake which is laid up in store for you in heaven, of which hope ye have heard by the true word of the gospel, which is come unto you, even as it is into all the world Colossians 1 23 i f ye continue grounded and stablished in the faith, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, whereof ye have heard , how that it is preached among all creatures, which are under heaven , whereof I Paul am made a minister. The Bible confirms the gospel was preached to the whole world before revelation was written. The disciples believed they would see Jesus return in their lifetimes. Jesus talked to his disciples 2000 years ago prophesying to them about what they were going to see. The 'Book of Martyrs' by John Foxe also testifies of this: https://www.matthewsbible.com/bookofmartyrs The bible says Jesus is coming soon because he did come soon. According to the historical written record: According to many historical records Jesus face appeared in the skies, seen by many. Multiple historians of the first centuries documented fiery armies and fiery chariots surrounding the cities of Israel. The Jewish historian Flavius Josephus, testified in his epistles 'Wars of the Jews', book 6, chapter 5, section 2 and 3 about chariots and troops of soldiers running about among the clouds and surrounding cities. The Roman historian Gaius Tacitus testified the same in his book 'The Histories', book 5 § 13. The Greek Christian historian Pseudo-Hegesippus (66-70 AD) wrote in book 5 chapter 44 of the latin version a burning comet coming like a fire and a sword being in the air for a year announcing with iron and fire the coming destruction of the people, the kingdom and the city itself. His writings testified of a certain figure of tremendous size appearing in the sky, which many saw, just as the books of the Jews have disclosed, and in the clouds chariots and armed battle arrays, by which the cities of all Iudaea and its territories were invaded. Eusebius of Caeserea wrote in his history book 3, chapter 8 of Ecclesiastical history about a star standing over the city like a sword and a comet for a whole year. He also reported about testimonies over the whole country about chariots and armed troops coursing through the clouds and surrounding the cities. Sepher Yosippon writer of 'A mediaeval history of ancient Israel' wrote about a single great star shining like swords located over the temple and seen above the Holy of Holies and for a whole night a outline of a man's face, the like of whose beauty had never been seen in all the land, and his appearance was quite awesome. He wrote about people seeing chariots of fire and horsemen, a great force flying across the sky near to the ground coming against Jerusalem and all the land of Judah, all of them horses of fire and riders of fire. Excerpts from chapter 87 "Burning of the Temple." The Geneva Bible In the "16th century" the followers of Christ knew that the establishment of the thousand year reign was in their past. The notes in the Geneva Bible published by the end of 1500 AD specified the establishment of the thousand year reign and the expiration the thousand years. In the section "The order of time " preceding the book of Revelation, the following statements were made: •Around 70 AD the dragon was bound 1,000 years •Around 1073 AD the dragon was let loose after 1,000 years [Revelation 20:7 side note] •The thousand year falleth precisely upon the times of that wicked hildebrand, who was called Gregorie the seventh a most damnable necromancer and sourcer, whom Satan led as an instrument when he was loosed out of bonds, thenceforth to annoy the saints of God with the most cruel persecutions, and the whole world with dissentions', and most bloody wars. Geneva Bible 1607 (Revelation 20:7 Side note) The historian John Foxe wrote studies about the times of the thousand year reign and the destruction of the reign. In "The Acts and Monuments" of John Foxe volume I by Rev George Townsend, the following is written: •First, I will intreat of the suffering time of the church, which continued from the apostles' age about three hundred years. •Second, of the flourishing time of the church, which lasted other three hundred years. •Third, of the deelining of backsliding time of the church, which comprehendth other three hundred years, until the loosing out of Satan which was about the thousandth year after the nativity of Christ. [The majority of Israel became Christian around 400 AD] In 'The Acts and Monuments' of John Foxe volume IV by Rev George Townsend, the following is written: • To be short, then came in the time that the Revelation speaketh of, when Satan, the old serpent, being tied up for a thousand years, was loosed for a certain space, of the which space, here, in these books, by the help and supportation of Christ our Lord, we intend something to entreat and speak of, though not of all things in general done in all places, yet that such things as be most principle may come to light, the knowledge whereof shall be necessary for all our countryman to understand. The 'Acts and Monuments' Continuation of book V contains a chapter "The last three hundred years from the loosing out of Satan." There is archeological evidence of the 1,000 year millennial reign: Below you will find examples of the 'spirit inspired' architecture that was created under the 1,000 year rein of Christ. Much of which was destroyed by fire, war, or dismantled after they were repurposed for world fairs. The world, under the control of Satan in this little season calls the millenial reign, or the 1000 Byzantine empire, the "dark ages." Buffalo 1901 More examples to follow. January 06, 1858: "Strange as it may appear, America abounds in antiquities, so extensive, so beautiful and majestic, as to rival those of Thebes or Nineveh. Ruins of ancient cities, of immense extent; fortifications, mounds and pyramids; temples with walls built of hewn stone showing a refined taste in architecture - and adorned with human figures, beautifully executed; large altars ornamented with hieroglyphics, probably giving a record of those who reared them, but which no man has been able to decipher; remains of ancient palaces with beautiful specimens of sculpture and painting, with many other marks of ancient greatness, proved to us that this is not a new world, but a powerful empire existed in a very remote period of time, teeming with a population highly skilled in arts, and in a state of civilization far beyond anything we have been led to conceive of the aborigines, previous to the discovery of the continent by the Europeans. The antiquities of America extend from the eastern shores of Maine and Massachusetts to the Pacific and from the Great lakes of British dominions to Peru and La Plata in South America; in fact, throughout the extent of both continents. Immense forest grow over the ruins of large cities, and the gigantic size of the trees, with indications that other generations of trees sprung up and grew before them, proved that the ruins were in existence before the Christian era. In every portion of the United States interesting ruins have been discovered. In the state of New York have been found sculptured figures of 100 animals of different species, executed it in a style far superior to anything exhibited by any of the existing tribes of Indians. The state of Ohio abounds and ruins of towns and fortifications, with extensive mounds and pyramids. At Marietta, and in Missouri, beautiful pottery, silver and copper ornaments, and pearls of great beauty and lustre, have been dug from the Earth. in the caves of Tennessee and Kentucky, mummies have been found, in a high state of preservation, clothed with cloths and skins of various texture, inlaid with feathers. Like discoveries have been made at Carrolton near Milwaukee, in the state of Wisconsin - ruins of huge fortifications appear. Similar ruins appear in the state of Missouri. On the south side of the Missouri River in the Western portion of the state is an enclosure some 500 acres, which includes the ruins of a building (no doubt ancient Tower) with walls over 100 ft high, and 80 ft wide at the base, attached to which are a redoubt and citadel, with work much resembling the structure of a tower in Europe." - Raftsman's journal. January 06, 1858 https://www.matthewsbible.com/antiquities Who occupies these buildings today? Revelation 20:7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, and shall go out to deceive the people which are in the four quarters of the earth Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle whose number is as the sand of the sea: and they went up on the plain of the earth, and compassed the tents of the saints about, and the beloved city. The millennial reign is labeled by this current generation as the "dark ages" or the 1,000 year byzantine empire. The mosaics of the period show angles and people with halos. Similar mosaics are found on the spirit inspired architecture the old world left behind. That architecture was potentially built by glorified saints and angels. Example: The Sistine Chapel. The millenial reign would have also be filled with resurrected saints. The Sistine Chapel The Sistine Chapel Painted by Michelangelo, or Michae l angel o. Little Season Eschatology: Little Season Eschatology is NOT the Preterism view, it is not partial preterism. Little season eschatology is a specific end time perspective that takes the bible at its word. We in little season eschatology interpret Daniel 2 and the image of Nebuchadnezzars dream the feet of iron and clay they were destroyed by the stone and that stone became a large mountain that filled the entire earth and the stone was Jesus Christ and the mountain that filled the whole earth was his Kingdom, the millennial kingdom of Christ after the destruction of the iron(Rome) and the clay(Jerusalem). They were destroyed together. Rome and Jerusalem fell during the time in Revelation of the 7 trumpet judgements and the 7 vial judgements. This was the judgement upon the harlot and the beast. The feet of the iron and the clay were destroyed together at the second coming of Christ. After this beast system was destroyed the millennial kingdom was set up. The millennial kingdom was a literal 1,000 year kingdom that has taken place in our past. Maybe people try to take statements and ideas in the bible such as the 1,000 year millennial kingdom and tell you it's figurative and apply "spiritual duck tape" on it so that these items match an alternative view. The millennial reign was a literal 1,000 years that has occurred in our past. We can see this both inside and outside of our Bibles. The first resurrection that we see in Revelation 20 has occurred in our past too. Medieval art during these 1,000 years(the early Christian, Byzantine, Romanesque, and gothic periods "400 to 1300 A.D.") all show glorified saints reigning with Christ during this period of time. The abundance of material coming out of this time period was a representation of what they saw and encountered during this time. The dark ages were truly an age of light. So was the Byzantine empire that followed. Anno Domini means year of the Lord and we see this on old coins with dates starting with I representing the time period of the millennial reign, the time of Iésous Christ. The English language was created during the millennial reign. The Anglo-Saxon's introduced the English language after the fall of Rome in the first century. Also known as Englisc" or "Ænglisc. This eschatology gives you the keys to open up biblical prophecy better than any other eschatology. Daniel 2:35 Then was the iron, the earth, the copper, the silver and gold broken altogether in pieces: and became like the chaff of corn, that the wind bloweth away from the summer floors, that they can no more be found. But the stone that smote the Image, be-came a great mountain, which fulfilleth the whole earth. This eschatology takes the bible at its word. We take Jesus Christ at his word. We can simply trust in Jesus. Isaiah 61 is a Millennial Kingdom passage. The world is hiding the 2nd coming behind the middle/dark ages. People, places, and events in this period of time have been conflated in a false stretched out timeline. Anglo-Saxon (Angels and the sons of Isaac). During this time the bibles were translated into English and spread throughout the world. Such as the Matthew's Bible. Why do I believe "little season eschatology" is correct? What About The Early Church Fathers? JESUS IS GOD The S c ripture Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child shall be born, and unto us a son shall be given. John 1:1,10,14 In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God: and the word was God. He was in the world, and the world by him was made: and yet the world knew him not. The jews answered him saying: For thy good works’ sake we stone thee not: but for thy blasphemy, and because that thou being a man, makest thyself God John 10:38 But though ye believe not me, yet believe the works, that ye may know and believe that the father is in me, and I in him. John 14:6 Jesus said unto him I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man cometh unto the father, but by me. If ye had known me ye had known my father also. And now ye know him. And ye have seen him. Philip said unto him: Lord shew us thy father and it sufficeth us. Jesus said unto him: have I been so long time with you: and yet hast thou not known me? Philip, he that hath seen me, hath seen the father. And how sayest thou then: shew us the father? Believest thou not that I am in the father, and the father in me? The words that I speak unto you, I speak not of myself: but the father dwelling in me is he that doeth the works. Believe that I am in the father, and the father in me. John 16:27 For my father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God. I went out from the father, and came into the world: and I leave the world again, and go to the father. His disciples said unto him: lo now speakest thou plainly, and thou usest no proverb. Now know we that thou understandest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee any question. Therefore believe we that thou camest from God. Jesus answered them: Now ye do believe John 20:27 Than said he to Thomas: put in thy finger here, and see my hands, and put forth thy hand and thrust him into my side, and be not without faith: but believe. Thomas answered and said unto him: my Lord, and my God. Jesus said unto him: Thomas, because thou hast seen me, therefore hast thou believed: Happy are they that have not seen, and yet believe Acts 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, whereof the holy ghost hath made you overseers, to rule the congregation of God, which he hath purchased with his blood. Philippians 2:5 Let the same mind be in you the which was in Christ Jesus: Which being in the shape of God, and thought it not robbery to be equal with God. And these three are one. 1382 Wycliffe Bible: 1 John 5:7 For three be, that give witnessing in heaven, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost; and these three be one. T y ndale "Jesus is God, and Almighty. He took our nature upon him, and felt all our infirmities and sicknesses, and in feeling learned to have compassion on us, and for compassion cried mightily in prayers to God the Father for us, and was heard. And the voice of the same blood that once cried, not for vengeance as Abel’s, but for mercy only, as was heard, crieth now and ever, and is ever heard ... He is also called Christus, that is to say, king anointed with all might and power over sin, death and hell, and over all sins. ... He is anointed with all fullness of grace, and hath all the treasure and riches of the Spirit of God in his hand, with which he blesseth all men, according to the promise made to Abraham." ~William Tyndale [Exposition of the First Epistle of St. John] Philippians 2 : 5 [Jesus "emptied" himself of his God nature and became as a humbled servant.] Tyndale "Let the same mind be in you the which was in Christ Jesus: Which being in the shape of God, and thought it not robbery to be equal with God. Nevertheless he made himself of no reputation, and took on him the shape of a servant, and became like unto men, and was found in his apparel as a man." Wycliffe "A nd feel ye this thing in you, which was also in Christ Jesus; which when he was in the form of God, deemed not raven, himself to be even to God; but he meeked himself, taking the form of a servant, and was made into the likeness of men, and in habit was found as a man. God came down retaining all the attributes of divinity, yet, as a man, he voluntarily restricted their use. Early Church Fathers on the Divinity of Christ "For if he had not come in the flesh, how could we men have been saved, when we look at him? For when men look at the sun, the work of his hands, which will cease to exist, they have not power to face its rays." Barnabas "Who [the Word] being in the beginning with God-became flesh, that he might be comprehended by those who were not able to look at him, in that he was the Word, and was with God, and was God" "Coming down once to that which was not able to look at the dazzling brightness of his divinity, he became in a manner flesh." Irenaeus "God could not have entered into conversation with men, unless he had assumed human feelings and affections, by which he could temper the greatness of his majesty, which would have been intolerable to human weakness, with a humility which might be unworthy of Him, but necessary for man". Tertullian "To the church at Ephesus-which was preordained before the worlds-according to the will of the Father and of Jesus Christ our God". Ignatius "Ye have all been humble-minded, arrogant in nothing, subjected rather than subjecting, giving rather then receiving, being satisfied with the supplies sent by God: and paying careful attention to His words, ye have fixed them deeply in your minds, and His sufferings were before your eyes". Clement of Rome "The holy scriptures speaking of God in the flesh, and the flesh of God when he became man, do mention the blood and sufferings and resurrection of the body of God". Ignatius "The words 'blood of the grape' are used purposely to express, that Christ has blood, not from the seed of man, but from the power of God. For in the same manner that man does not produce the blood of the vine, but God; so also this passage foretold, that the blood of Christ was not to be of human orgin, but from the power of God: and this prophecy shews, that Christ is not a man, begotten of men according to the common law of men. Men are redeemed by the blood of the grape, which has God dwelling in it, and is spiritual" Ignatius "I well know, we are not our own, but bought with a price: and what sort of price? The blood of God". Tertullian "The holy blood of our God Jesus Christ is not corruptible, nor the blood of a mortal man such as ourselves, but of very God". Dionysius of Alexandria "Our God Jesus Christ was conceived by Mary, according to the dispensation of God, of the seed indeed of David, but of the Holy Ghost". Ignatius "Then all magic art was destroyed, and every bond of iniquity was abolished; ignorance was put away, the old kingdom was destroyed, when God manifest humanly for the newness of eternal life". Ignatius "Keep yourselves then from such men: and you will do this, if ye are not puffed up, and if ye do not separate from God Jesus Christ". Ignatius "The Jews, who think that it was always God the father who spoke to Moses, (whereas he who spoke to him was the Son of God, who is also called an Angel, and an Apostle) are justly convicted both by the prophetical spirit, and by Christ himself, for knowing neither the Father nor the Son." Justin Martyr "It was Christ who said to Moses "I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the Land of Egypt."" Clement of Alexandria "It was Christ who spoke to Moses and consequently who delivered the whole of the Law" Origen "It was Christ who appeared to Joshua near Jericho" Justin Martyr (Justin quotes Joshua 5 13) "Where it is said "O God, give thy judgement to the king", since Solomon was a king, you think that the Psalm was spoken in honor of him; whereas the words of Psalm expressly declare that it is spoken in honor of the eternal King, and a Priest, and God, and Lord, and Angel, and Man, and Chief-captain, and a Stone, and a Child bord; and first made capable of suffering, then returning into heaven, and again coming hither with glory, and in possession of the eternal kingdom, as I prove from all the scriptures." Justin Martyr (He then quotes the whole Psalm 72) "I will give you another proof from the scriptures, that in the beginning, before all creatures, God begat a certain reasonable power of himself, which is also called by the Holy Ghost "the Glory of the Lord" and sometimes "Son", sometimes "Wisdom", sometimes "an Angel", sometimes "God", sometimes "Lord" and "Word."" Justin Martyr (He then quotes Proverbs 8 22) "As to the scriptures which we quote to them, (the Jews), which expressly prove that Christ was to suffer and to be worshipped, and that he is God, they are compelled to allow that these were spoken concerning Christ, but they have the presumption to say that this (Jesus) is not the Christ: but they acknowledge that he was to come, and to suffer, and to be a King, and to be worshipped as God." Justin Martyr "Many passages which expressly shewed that this Jesus, who was crucified, was spoke of as God and man, and crucified and dead[Being asked by Trpho to name passages he quotes Jeremiah 11 19 & Psalm 96 10]" Justin Martyr "If you had known who this is, who is called "the Angel of great Counsel", and by Ezekiel a man, and by Daniel the Son of man, and by Isaiah a child, and by many Christ, and God who is to be worshipped, and David, and Christ, and a stone, and by Solomon Wisdom, and Joseph and Judah and a star by Moses, and by Zachariah the East, and by Isaiah subject to suffering, and Jacob, and Israel, and a staff, and a flower, and the head stone of the corner, and the Son of God, - I say, if you had known this you would not have spoken blasphemies against him who is already come, and has been born and suffered, and ascended into heaven; who will also come again, and then your twelve tribes will mourn. For if you had understood what the prophets have said, you would not have denied him to be God, Son of the only unbegotten and ineffable God" -Justin Martyr (Justin then quotes Exodus 62, Genesis 32 24, 32 30, 18 2, 18 13, 18 16, 18 17, Numbers 11 23, Deut 31 2, 31 3, all identifying him with God) "Wherever in the Old Testament God is said to have appeared, or to have conversed with any man, as in Gen 17:22, Gen 6:5, and Gen 7:16, we are not to understand that God the Father, who is invisible, came down to earth, but we are to interpret, all these expression of him who being also God is His Son according to His will, and an Angel, inasmuch as he ministers to His purpose; whom He also willed to become man and be born of a Virgin; who also once became fire in the conversation held with Moses out of the bush. For unless we put this interpretation upon the scriptures, there will be times when the Father and the Lord of the universe was not in heaven, as it is said by Moses, 'The Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven', Gen 19 24 - Now that Christ is Lord, and substantially God the Son of God, and in times past appeared potentially as man, and an angel, and in fiery glory, as he appeared in the bush, and at the judgement of Sodom, has been proved by many arguments." Justin Martyr "When it is said, 'The Lord rained fire from the Lord out of heaven', the sacred text speaks of two in number, one who was on earth, who, he says, came down to see the cry of Sodom; and the other, who was in heaven; who is also Lord of the Lord that was upon the earth, inasmuch as He is Father and God, and the cause of existence to him who is himself mighty and Lord and God." Justin Martyr "We are not talking foolishly, nor do we relate idle tales, when we declare that God was born in the form of man." Tatian "We are not worshippers of senseless stones, but of the only God, who was before all things, and is above all things: and also of his Christ, who was verily God, the Word, before the worlds." Melito of Sardis "Neither the Lord therefore, nor the Holy Ghost, nor the apostles, would ever have given to him who was not God, the name of God definitively and absolutely, unless he were truly God: neither would they have called anyone Lord in his own person, except him who is Lord over all, God the Father, and His Son, who has received from his Father authority over every creature, as the Psalmist says, 110:1 'The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool'. For he represents the father speaking to the Son; who has given him the Gentiles for his inheritance, and subjected all his enemies unto him. Since therefore the Father is truly Lord, and the Son truly Lord, the Holy Ghost has suitably marked them with appellation of Lord. And again, in the overthrowing of Sodom, the scripture says, (Gen 19:24) 'And the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah fire and brimstone from the Lord out of heaven.' For it signifies in this place, that the Son, who had also been conversing with Abraham, has received power from the Father to judge the people of Sodom on account of their iniquity. That is a similar expression, 'Thy throne, O God, is for ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre. Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated wickedness; therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee.' For the spirit has marked each with the appellation of God, both him who is anointed, I.e. the Son, and Him who anoints, i.e. the Father. And again, 'God standeth in the congregation of the gods; He judgeth among the gods’. This is spoken of the Father and the Son, and of those who received adoption; and these are the church. For this is the congregation of God, which God, i.e. the Son himself, has gathered together by himself. Of whom the Psalmist says in another place(50:1), 'The God of Gods, the Lord hath spoken, and called the earth.' What God? He of whom it is said, 'God shall manifestly come, our God, and shall not keep silence'(Verse 3), i.e. the Son who came manifestly amongst men, who says, 'I have appeared openly unto them who seek me not'. But of what God does the Psalmist speak, to whom he says, 'I have said, Ye are gods and all sons of the Most High? Psalms 83 6 to those who have received the grace of adoption, by which we cry, Abba, Father’. No other person therefore, as I said before, receives the name of God, or appellation of Lord, except He who is God and Lord of all, (who also said to Moses, ‘I am that I am: and thus shalt thou say to the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you’), and His Son Jesus Christ, our Lord, who makes those who believe in his name to be sons of God: and in another place the Son speaks to Moses, saying 'I am come down to deliver this people': for it is he himself who descended and ascended for the salvation of men. It is by the Son therefore who is in the Father, and has the Father in himself, that he who is truly God has been manifested unto us, the Father bearing testimony to the Son, and the Son announcing the Father." -Irenaeus “They presented gold and frankincense and myrrh, as to a King and God and Man.” Peter of Alexandria “They brought gifts, which, if I may so say, they offered symbolically to one compound of God and a mortal man; gold as to a King; myrrh, as to one who was to die; and incense, as to a god.” Origen “This is the mystery, which he says was made known to him by revelation, that he who suffered under Pontius Pilate, the same is Lord of all, and King, and God, and Judge.” Irenaeus “Not that we ever name with our mouth two Gods, or two Lords, although the Father is God, and the Son is God, and the Holy Ghost is God, and each is God; - and if the Father and Son are to be mentioned together, for sake of distinction we call the Father God, and Jesus Christ Lord: but yet, speaking of Christ singly, I can call him God, as Paul did, ‘of whom is Christ, who, he says, is God over all, blessed for ever’. Tertullian “Christ was God, and suffered for our sakes, being himself the Father, that he might save us. We can not come to any other conclusion; for the apostle acknowledges one God when he says, ‘Whose are the fathers, of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever’. Noetus “As to the Apostle saying, ‘Whose are the fathers’, he declares the mystery of the truth properly and plainly. He who is over all is God: for he thus says boldly, ‘All things are delivered unto me of the Father’, (Matt 11 27). He that is God over all is blessed; and becoming man is God for ever.” Hippolytus “Christ is God.” Novatian “The substances both of God and man were shown in Christ.” Novatian “He fulfills the rich and vast will of his Father, he himself being the Savior of those who are saved, and the Lord of those who are under his dominion, and the God of the things which are made, and the only-begotten of the Father, and Christ who was foretold, and the Word of God, who became incarnate, when the fulness of time arrived, in which the Son of God was to become the Son of man.” Irenaeus “Having clearly proved that the Word which in the beginning was with God, by whom all things were made, who also was always present with mankind, in these last days, according to the time prefixed by the Father, was united unto his own creation, and became man capable of suffering: it follows, that all contradiction is excluded of those who say, ‘if Christ was born at that time, therefore he did not exist before’. For we have proved, that the Son of God did not then begin to be, having always existed with his father; but when he became incarnate, and was made man, he summed up in himself the whole human race, giving us salvation”. Irenaeus “Jesus therefore, as we have said before, united man with God. For if it had not been a man who conquered the adversary of man, the enemy would not have been rightly conquered. And again, if it had not been God who gave salvation, we should not have had it securely. And if man had not been united to God, he could not have partaken of immortality. For it was necessary that the mediator between God and man, by his own relationship to both, should bring both to friendship and unanimity; that he should present man to God, and make God known to men”. Irenaeus “Above all men that ever lived is called God and Lord and Eternal King, and only-begotten, and the Incarnate Word, both by all the Prophets and Apostles, and by the Holy Spirit Himself. But the scriptures would not have testified this of him, if he had been merely a man, like all other men. But that he had in himself above all men that exalted birth, which is of the most high Father, and that he had also that exalted birth which is of a Virgin, both these points the divine scriptures testify of him: and that he was a man ‘with no form not comeliness, subject to suffering, sitting upon the foal of an ass’; that he had vinegar and gall to drink; that he was despised by the people, and condescended even to death; and that he is the holy Lord, and ‘wonderful counsellor’, and in beautiful appearance, and ‘the mighty God’, coming on the clouds to judge all men—all these things the scriptures prophesied concerning him.” Irenaeus "Again, it was foretold that it was neither to be a mere man who saves us, nor yet without flesh, (Isaiah lxiii. 9.) and that he should begin to be a real, visible man, although he was the Word giving salvation, (ib. xxxiii. 20.) and that he was not merely a man who died for us--and that the Son of God, who is God, was to come from that part which is to the south-west of the inheritance of Judah; and that he who was of Bethlehem, where the Lord was born, should send forth his praise unto all the world, as the prophet Habakkuk says, (ch. iii. 3,4.) manifestly shewing that he was God, and that his advent was in Bethlehem, and from mount Ephrem, which is to the south-west of the inheritance, and that he was man." Irenaeus "God therefore became man, and the Lord himself saved us, giving us the sign of a virgin: By the words now quoted, (Isaiah vii. 10.) the Holy Ghost has accurately signified his birth, which is of a Virgin, and his substance, that he is God: (for the name Emmanuel signifies this:) and he shews that he was a man, by saying, 'butter and honey shall he eat', and by calling him a 'child', and, 'before he knew to choose good and evil', for all these things are tokens of a human child. But that 'he shall not consent to iniquity that he may choose the good', this is peculiar to God; that by his eating butter and honey we might not suppose him to be a mere man, nor yet from the name Emmanuel suspect him to be God without flesh." Irenaeus "He therefore who was worshipped by the Prophets, the living God, He is the God of the living, and His Word, who also spake with Moses, who also refuted Sadducees--Christ therefore with the Father is the God of the living, who spake with Moses, and was revealed to the patriarchs." Irenaeus ***The testimony here born to the divinity of Christ is so much the stronger, because Irenaeus is contending that there is only 'one God' mentioned in the Old Testament: and since he here argues that Christ is the God who is spoke of in the Old Testament, it follows, that he must have believed him to be of one substance with the Father, very and eternal God.*** Edward Burton*** "If therefore the very same God is come, who was foretold by the prophets, out Lord Jesus Christ, and his coming has given us a fuller grace and a greater distribution of gifts to those who received him, it is plain that it is the very same Father who was announced by the prophets; and the Son, when he came, did not spread the knowledge of another Father, but of the same who was spoken of from the beginning." Irenaeus "There is therefore one God, who made and arranged all things by His Word and Wisdom: but this is the Creator, who also gave this world to the human race; who in His exceeding greatness was unknown to all those who were made by Him--But according to His love is known always by him, through whom He ordained all things. But this is His Word, our Lord Jesus Christ, who in these last days was made man among men, the he might join the end to the beginning, i.e. man to God. And therefore the prophets, receiving the gift of prophecy from the same Word, foretold his coming according to the flesh, by whom the conjoining and communion of God and man was made according to the Will of the Father, the Word of God foretelling from the beginning, that God should be seen by men, and should live with them upon the earth, and should converse with them, and be present with His creation, saving it, and capable of being perceived by it, and freeing us from the hands of all who hate us." Irenaeus "Jesus therefore by remitting sins cured men, and manifestly shewed himself who he was: for if no one can remit sins except God alone, but the Lord remitted these and cured men, it is plain that he was the Word of God, being made the Son of man, receiving from the Father the power of the remission of sins, that he was man, and that he was God; that like as he suffered with us as man, he had compassion upon us as God." Irenaeus ***Ignatius, Irenaeus, Tertullian, Hippolytus, Origen, Dionysius of Alexandria, Archelaus, Alexander of Alexandria, and Eusebius all referred to Mary as 'the mother of God'.*** "The Word therefore, that is, Christ, is the cause of our original being, for he was in God; and he is also the cause of our well-being; since this same Word, who is alone both God and man, hath appeared to men as the cause of all good things to us: by whom we are instructed in living well, and conducted to eternal life. For, according to the inspired apostle of our Lord, (Tit. ii. 11.) 'The grace of God that bringeth salvation to all men hath appeared, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldy lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the God and our Saviour Jesus Christ'. This is the new song, the appearance, which has now shone forth among us, of the Word who was in the beginning, and preexisted; the Saviour, who was before, hath appeared lately: he hath appeared, who is in Him who is, because he is the Word who was with God: the Teacher hath appeared, by whom all things were made; the Word, who also in the beginning gave life when he formed us, as the Creator, hath taught us to live well, appearing as a Teacher, that he might afterwards give us eternal life, as God". Clemens Alexandrinus "What is left, but the appearing of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ who is God from heaven?" Hippolytus "Our Instructor is like to God his Father, whose Son he is, without sin, irreprehensible, and without passion in his soul: God in the form of man, undefiled, ministering to his Fathers will, God the Word, who is in the Father, who is on the right hand of the Father and in form also God" Tertullian ***Tertullian argues, that the 'form of a servant' must mean that Christ was really a man, because 'being in the form of God' means that he was really God. He is arguing against the Marcionites, who allowed the divinity of Christ, but denied the reality of his human body*** "The Marcionites think that the apostle supports their opinion about the substance of Christ, that there was merely an appearance of flesh in Christ, when he says, that 'being in the form of God, he thought it not robbery to be equal with God, but exhausted himself, taking the form of a servant', not the reality: and in the likeness of man, not in man: and being found a man in figure, not in substance, i.e. not in flesh: as if figure and likeness and form were not also parts of substance. But it is well that elsewhere (Col. i. 15.) he calls Christ 'the image of the invisible God': and does he here also place him 'as in the form of God'? In the same manner Christ will not really be God if he was not really man, when 'in the form of man'. For reality must be excluded in each place, if the form and likeness and figure are to be ascribed to a mere appearance. But if he was declared to be in the form and image, as being Son of the Father, who is really God, he was also really found to be a man, in the image and form of man, as being the Son of man; for he used the word 'found' intentionally, i.e. most assuredly a man: for that which is found, is proved to be. So also he was found to be God by his power, as by his flesh to be man." Tertullian "The only begotten Word of God, who is God of God divested himself according to the scripture, lowering himself voluntarily to what he was not, and clothed himself with this inglorious flesh" Hippolytus "If Christ were merely a man in the likeness of God, he would not have been spoken of as in the form of God: for we know that man is made after the likeness, not after the form of God-And he was truely said to be in the form of God, since he himself is over all things, and has divine power over every creature, and is God like his Father, that he should be God and Lord of all, and God after the form of God the father, begotten and produced by Him" Novatian "But the form of God is His Word, and Wisdom is acknowledged to be the Son of God, and God himself, being always one person and one substantial person." Dionysius of Alexandria "He that endured the cross thought in not robbery to be equal with God, who is the Word of the Father, and our Lord God, the Lord of hosts, who was lifted up upon the cross." Dionysius of Alexandria

  • Works | Matthew's Bible

The original english bible translated from greek and hebrew by William Tyndale. Legalism vs License vs Liberty Stephen was the first martyr for this particular issue. Thereafter Philip and Peter continued teaching this 'new faith'. In Galatians, Paul traveled to Jerusalem in order to preach to the Jews who were suspicious of this new faith being taken to Gentiles. Paul's mission was to challenge the very heart of the church that was sending out anti missionaries who were saying it wasn't enough to just believe and that you had to be circumcised. This was a salvation issue and at the heart of it was whether salvation was by works or by faith or by a mixture of both. It's important to note that most of the religions of the world are salvation by works. How many of the commandments do you have to keep in order to be a Christian? What Paul is fighting for is Christian freedom. Legalism makes the whole thing a matter of rules rather than relationships. License makes the whole thing about the swamp of the flesh. Legalism places us into bondage of others. License places us into bondage of ourselves. Both place us under the wrath of God. Galatians chapters 1 and 2 talk about liberty. Chapters 3 and 4 talk about legalism. And chapters 5 and 6 talk about the license. Paul is actually fighting on two fronts to keep the truth. Rules and regulations do not bring revival. Beware of legalism. Sin will cost you your salvation, you are not free to sin, beware of license. The works of the flesh (such as promiscuity, occultism, drug use, quarreling, rivalry, jealousy, envy, prejudice, etc.) will cost you your salvation. "For whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he reap" -Paul Paul warned believers and he warned them again that if they continue in the works of the flesh, they will not inherit the kingdom of God. He warned that if we wallow in sin, we will not inherit the kingdom. 1 Corinthians 6:9 Do ye not remember how that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Liberty is the freedom not to sin. Isn't that a lovely freedom? You are free in Christ not to sin. "We have been given the Grace to say no" Paul in his letter to Titus. J a mes In Galatians chapter 2 and Ephesians chapter 2 - The phrase ' not by works ', is referring to the Jewish commandments contained in ordinances. Ordinances such as things like food laws and circumcision. The word Works I think the problem is the word works. I think people misuse it. My New Testament says that faith without works is dead, it can not save. I think it is better translated - faith without action is dead. Faith is an active thing that we do. Repentance is an active thing that we do...call them works if you like but to say that's salvation by works is a complete distortion. The classical text for salvation is "for by grace are we saved through faith" and grace is what God does and faith is what we do and both are essential. Now, we are not saved by our faith, we are not saved by what we do, we are saved through what we do. In other words we can not be saved without that. We can't be saved by grace without faith and faith is our part and grace is His part and when we believe grace saves. God is always responding to us and he wants us to take certain steps. For instance, God can not forgive a person unless they repent first. That's the teaching of scripture. We cannot forgive each other unless someone has repented. Jesus said if your brother sins against you 7 times in a day forgive your brother 7 times, if he repents. God expects us to admit we have sinned, to cease from sin, to turn away from it, to renounce it, to put right what we can if at all possible....all this is repentance and God forgives when we repent. Repenting and believing are what we do to make it possible for grace to save us. To call this salvation by works is a complete misunderstanding. Never are faith or repentance called works in the New Testament. They are actions and they are actions that we do...these actions don't deserve salvation and they do not bring salvation but they make it possible for God to show his grace towards us. So many people believe that grace operates first but that's not the case. The New Testament says grace is available for everybody but unless we repent and believe that grace is useless. Having faith in Christ and believing in Christ are actions. Let us take a look at what believing in Christ means, Believing in Christ Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness ; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Believing in Christ is an action, and it is an action that leads unto righteousness. Believing teaches repentance. " Verily, verily I say unto you whosoever believeth on me, the works that I do, the same shall he do, and greater works then these shall he do, because I go unto my father. " -Jesus Christ Hebrews 12:14 states "Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord". Here we see more action, here we are called to be holy. Verse 15 shows us how sin leads man to fail in the grace of God. Verse 17 shows us that there is no salvation where there is no repentance: "For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears." We have to be born again, we can want God to save us with all of our being but without repentance, without these faith testifying actions, there is no salvation. When we put on the armor of God by seeking His will and reading his word there is a change in us. God changes who he saves and if there has been no change on our part then there has been no salvation. Jude 1:4 shows us that people pervert the grace of God by denying (or disobeying) Christ and are ungodly people. " For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ." Let us take a look at what the Grace of God teaches us, The Grace of God Titus 2:11 "For the grace of God, that bringeth salvation unto all men, hath appeared and teacheth us that we should deny ungodliness and worldly lusts , and that we should live honestly, righteously, and godly in this present world. The Grace of God teaches repentance. In 1 Peter 4 it says "Forasmuch as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he which suffereth in the flesh ceaseth from sin, that he henceforward should live as much time as remaineth in the flesh, not after the lusts of men: but after the will of God. ^^Ceasing to sin is not salvation by works and is the only way to be saved^^ Elijah, Isaiah, Joel, Jonah, Jeremiah, Micha, Amos, Malachai, the Disciples, and Jesus all preached repentance. We are either saved or unsaved, clean or unclean, righteous or unrighteous, holy or unholy, a child of God or a child of the devil. Whether we have faith or not is magnified by who we are and what we do. Having faith in Jesus isn't a thought or a proclamation, it's action....these are required "works" to put us into the position to be saved. These are not works of the law these are faith testifying works, or actions. Faith IS action. It is imperative for the Christian to be able to define the word works and use it properly. The entire OT and NT requires us to do things for God with our actions. Our belief is shown in our actions as well as with our faith. We will also be judged on our actions. All of the whole of all the scriptures teaches us this. We can not take singular statements of Paul or any other author to take a detour from the narrow path. Being born again is an entire transformation of our character, behavior, and actions and is the only way to be saved. Faith and action are always hand in hand. Proverbs 19:27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge. Let us look at Matthew 7:21 for example. Jesus said "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven." Would doing the will of the father be considered salvation by works of the law? I don't believe it does. We see here that faith without works is dead. Here are individuals who have faith as they call Jesus the Lord but it isn't enough. That faith, if true, carries faith testifying action and with Matthew 7 that faith testifying action is doing the will of the father. If we head to verse 23 Jesus says "And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." These are people who have faith but no faith testifying action...but going even further... it also shows that people who have faith with bad behavior - their faith is in vain and even though they called on the name of the Lord they did so in vain and will be unsaved. Matthew 7:21-23 shows us that individuals who have faith with good and bad behavior are told to depart from the Lord. People of real faith do not continue on living in sin. If we say we have faith and our actions are accompanied by sin then we don't really have any faith. Jesus stated that if we love him we keep his commandments, would we consider that salvation by works? Would repentance and being born again, living a holy life, obedient to Christ be salvation by works of the law? They are not but these actions are required in order to place ourselves under God’s grace. Again, God freely offers his grace to everyone who responds to the Gospel and receives it. Jesus said in John 10 "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me, and I give unto them eternal life". Would Jesus give eternal life to people who call on his name but choose not to follow? No. Hebrews 5:9 shows us that Jesus is the author of salvation to everyone who obeys him. In Luke 6:23 Jesus said, "And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me." These are actions. Our actions are what testify of our faith...faith without action testifies of a lack of faith and faith with bad actions testify of a lack of faith. These actions are NOT works of the law. Just acknowledging that Jesus is the Son of God is not enough. Believing and having faith are actions that we do. The Transformation of Covenants What most fail to see-thus study endlessly the scriptures seeking ways to adapt the Hebrew ways to their gentile lives-is that the New Covenant or Testament that was sealed by the Blood of the Lamb, is a covenant that no longer is written on stone but on the hearts of men. God the Father, promised this would take place in Jeremiah 31:33 and Paul spoke of its fulfillment in Hebrews 8:10. What most fail to see is that we are not called to observe the Torah or any other book; we are called to BECOME living stones ourselves, living epistles on which God’s laws are written and are to be known and studied by all men (2 Corinthians 3). What most fail to see is that no matter how blessed and filled with words of life the Bible is, it continues to be the record not the witness: the Spirit is the Witness and He has been given as a witness within upon regenerative faith. When Jesus spoke of the Kingdom of Heaven being in us, He was speaking of an internal rule and that rule has a Ruler. The Witness is the Ruler. John speaks of there being 3 Who bear witness, and they bear witness in Heaven and on earth, they bear witness within the vessels that have been born again just as Jesus revealed the mystery of regeneration to Nicodemus. “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.” (John 5:4-11) These things are not easy to understand and Peter knew it and said so in 2 Peter 3:16. He also warned these things being misinterpreted by the unlearnt unto their own destruction. And who is unlearnt but the one who doesn’t have the unction of the Holy Spirit, the Witness within? “But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.” (1 John 2:20) “But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.” (1 John 2:27) Paul says spiritual things are discerned spiritually not gnostically, not ritually, or any other way. John writes these things so that no one seduces the elect. Peter warns of misinterpretations. God is the Same, yesterday, today and forever but the Covenant has changed. There is no longer need for a schoolmaster; don’t let people seduce or deceive you into remaining under such. This covenant no longer relies on the circumcision of the flesh but on the circumcision of the heart, which can only be performed by the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Christ in us. • Covetousness | Matthew's Bible

Co v eto u sness Exodus 18 21 Moreover seek out among all the people, men of activity which fear God, and men that are true and hate covetousness: and make them heads over the people, captains over thousands, over hundreds, over fifty, and over ten. Job 20 20 His belly could never be filled, therefore shall he perish in his covetousness. He devoured so greedily, that he left nothing behind, therefore his goods shall not prosper. Though he had plenteousness of everything, yet was he poor, and therefore he is but a wretch on every side. Psalms 119 36 Incline mine heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness. O turn away mine eyes, lest they behold vanity, and quicken me in thy way. Proverbs 28 15 Like as a roaring lion and an hungry bear, even so is an ungodly prince over the poor people. Where the prince is without understanding, there is great oppression and wrong: but if he be such one as hateth covetousness, he shall long reign. Esay 57 17 I am wroth with him for his covetousness and lust, I smite him, I hide me, and am angry, when he turneth himself, and followeth the byway of his own heart. Jeremy 6 13 For from the least unto the most, they hang all upon covetousness: and from the prophet unto the priest, they go all about with falsity and lies. And beside that, they heal the hurt of my people with sweet words, saying: peace, peace, when there is no peace at all. Jeremy 22 17 Nevertheless, as for thine eyes and thine heart, they look upon covetousness, to shed innocent blood, and to do wrong and violence. Ezekiel 22 12 Thou hast taken usury and increase, thou hast oppressed thy neighbours by extortion, and forgotten me, sayeth the Lord GOD. Behold, I have smitten my hands upon thy covetousness, that thou hast used, and upon the blood which hath been shed in thee. Amos 9 1 For their covetousness shall fall upon all their heads, and their posterity shall be slain with the sword. Mark 7 21 For from within even out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts: advoutry, fornication, murder, theft, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, uncleanness, and a wicked eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things, come from within, and defile a man. Luke 12 15 Wherefore he said unto them: take heed, and beware of covetousness. For no man’s life standeth in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. Romans 1 28 And as it seemed not good unto them to be aknown of God, even so God delivered them up unto a lewd mind, that they should do those things which were not comely, being full of all unrighteous doing, of fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness, full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, evil conditioned whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, doers of wrong, proud, boasters, bringers up of evil things, disobedient to fathers and mothers, without understanding, covenant breakers, unloving, stubborn and merciless. Ephesians 5 1 Be ye followers of God as dear children, and walk in love, even as Christ loved us, and gave himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice of a sweet savour to God. So that fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, be not once, named among you, as it becometh saints: neither filthiness, neither foolish talking, neither jestings, which are not comely: but rather giving of thanks. Colossians 3 5 Mortify therefore your members which are on the earth, fornication, uncleanness, unnatural lust, evil concupiscence, and covetousness which is worshipping of idols: for which thing’s sakes the wrath of God falleth on the children of unbelief. 1 Timothy 6 10 For covetousness is root of all evil, which while some lusted after, they erred from the faith, and tangled themselves with many sorrows. Hebrews 13 5 Let your conversation be without covetousness, and be content with that ye have already. For he verily said: I will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: that we may boldly say: The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man doeth unto me. 2 Peter 2 3 and thorow covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you, whose judgment is not far off, and their damnation sleepeth not. 2 Peter 2 13 They count it pleasure to live deliciously for a season. Spots they are and filthiness: and of you they make a mockingstock feasting together in their deceivable ways: having eyes full of advoutry, and that cannot cease to sin, beguiling unstable souls. Hearts they have exercised with covetousness. They are cursed children, and have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, which loved the reward of unrighteousness: but was rebuked of his iniquity.
